Ways to Work receives $170,000 in grants to launch four new sites
Foundations support economic empowerment program

Alliance sister organization Ways to Work received two grants that will help to open four new sites at Alliance member organizations.

Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust awarded Ways to Work a $100,000 grant. This funding will help launch the Ways to Work program at Alliance members Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois in River Forest, and Salvation Army Family Services in Chicago.

Also, Ways to Work received a $70,000 grant from The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. These funds will help Alliance members Jewish Family & Career Services and Families First, both in Atlanta, open Ways to Work sites. The funds will be provided over two years, as long as matching grants are realized.

Ways to Work is a national economic empowerment program that provides low-income, working families and individuals with small, short-term, low-interest loans that are mainly utilized to purchase used vehicles. The loan, coupled with other social services and intensive case management obtained through the Alliance member agency, including financial literacy services, often measurably improves quality of life for the Ways to Work client.

Through the efforts of Alliance member agencies, Ways to Work continues to be a clear difference-maker for families throughout the country. In 2009, the program increased its lending volume by more than 30 percent, to over $4.9 million, while decreasing the 24-month default rate by more than 20 percent.
