Member Highlights: Organizations awarded more than $2.5 million in grants
Grants include multi-million gift to Family & Children’s Place

A number of Alliance members recently were awarded grants. Funds will be used to open new facilities, expand service reach, and support current programs.

Family & Children's Place Receives $2 Million for Capital Campaign
Kosair Charities gave $2 million to Family & Children’s Place in Louisville, Ky., to support its capital campaign. The funds will allow the organization to open a new facility, as well as expand its services for children and families affected by physical abuse and neglect.

Robins' Nest Opens New Center With Grant Funds

Robins' Nest
in Glassboro, N.J. opened the Child and Adolescent Wellness Center in Salem City, N.J. with help from a $100,000 grant from the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation. The center provides emotional and behavioral therapy to children and families on Medicaid.

Buckner Children and Family Services Awarded $300,000 Grant
A $300,000 grant was awarded to Buckner Children and Family Services in Dallas by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Buckner will use the funds to make security and utility deposits for low-income families. In turn, the families will participate in self-sufficiency programs to further their chances of achieving financial independence.

Annual Grant Continues to Support Parenting Program
Northeast Parent & Child Society in Schenectady, N.Y., continues to offer its Parent Effectiveness and Intervention Program with the help of a $10,000 grant from the Hudson River Bank and Trust Foundation. Since the program for parents was established in 2006, it has received funding from the foundation every year. The Northeast Parent & Child Society's program helps local parents become more effective communicators, develop an increased understanding of their children’s behavior, and develop improved relationships with their children.
 
One Hope United Receives $10,000 Grant 
One Hope United in Chicago received a $10,000 grant from HSBC – North America. The grant will fund three programs: Wings, Healthy Families Illinois, and the Parent Group. All of these programs promote healthy families by teaching parenting skills, offering in-home visits, and providing support to parents. 

State-Wide Contests Result in Grants for Two Members
Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) in Wichita, Kan., was awarded a $10,000 grant by Wells Fargo. All Wachovia customers in Kansas were given a chance to vote for their favorite charity and KCSL was one of the organizations that received the most number of votes. Children’s Home + Aid in Chicago was among the agencies in Illinois to receive grants earlier this year. This same contest will be held in additional states when Wachovia locations are converted to Wells Fargo. Check out this map to see if your state could be next.

$100,000 Grant Supports Marketing Strategy Research
Berea Children’s Home and Family Services in Berea, Ohio, received a $100,000 grant from the Saint Luke’s Foundation. The foundation awarded 10 grants to local agencies to help hem bolster their organizations' communications and marketing strategies. Berea will use the funds to research, evaluate, and adjust its brand positioning.
 
License Plate Sales Contribute to Grant
Jewish Family & Children’s Service in Phoenix received $40,000 through the Child Abuse Prevention License Plate Program. The grant will help fund the Creating Peaceful Families program. In this program, staff work with children in classroom and community settings to prevent bullying, violence, and abuse. The Child Abuse Prevention License Plate Program is a partnership between The Arizona Republic and the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families. Proceeds from the sale of specialty license plates that read, “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child,” are matched by The Arizona Republic Charities and regranted to local agencies.
 
Northern Virginia Family Service Receives $25,000 Grant
The Neighbors in Need Fund awarded Northern Virginia Family Service in Oakton, Va., a $25,000 grant. The funds will support the organization’s Multicultural Human Service program, which offers mental health, educational, social, and language services to people of diverse ethnic backgrounds. The Neighbors in Need Fund, which regularly distributes grants to the greater Washington area, was established in 2008 as a response to the recession.
